wefeedtheneedy Program — Eradicating hunger one mouth at a time

Objectives

wefeedtheneedy program, an initiative of the Abdu-salaam Abbas foundation, was created to contribute to the eradication of hunger by providing food to the needy. We aim to eradicate hunger one mouth at a time.

Problem — Food and water is a luxury

Millions of people all over the world do not have access to daily meals. In Nigeria, 86% of the population live on less than ₦380 a day.

Solution

wefeedtheneedy program provides meals (breakfast/lunch/dinner) to less privileged people periodically (weekly for now) via donations from Abdu-salaam Abbas foundation and other interested donors.

As our donors and funds increase, we hope to provide more meals to people across Nigeria daily.

How

1. Funding: Initial & consistent funding will be provided by the Abdu-salaam Abbas foundation. Funding is also opened to other interested donors either consistently or one-off via a dedicated online platform (website is work-in-progress). Donate now

2. Administration: The program will be co-ordinated centrally by an administrative team who will also be working with donors across the coverage areas. Records about contribution, vendors, recipients et al will be kept and reported on a dashboard.

3. Procurement: Eligible vendors will be selected and patronized. Standard meals for breakfast, lunch or dinner will be bought from approved vendors periodically by selected volunteers at the various distribution centers. Apply as an eligible food vendor.

4. Distribution: The initial distribution centers are mosques across the country. We partner with mosques and request for volunteers amongst the mosque staff. The volunteers will be paid a stipend for their efforts. Apply as a volunteer.

The volunteers will be responsible for:

1. Procurement of the meals (will receive fund from admin weekly via Mosque account).

2. Collection of recipient’s data (name, mobile number) via meal cards/tickets

3. Distribution of meals.

4. Reporting to admin weekly.

Data collected will be used to measure the performance and effectiveness of the program

Reporting

An online dashboard/portal will be maintained for reporting program metrics and other useful information.
